Rapid Fire Book Tag

The lovely Mandy @ Book Princess Reviews tagged me in this interesting book tag. Thanks, Mandy!

I’ve always loved rapid fires, even though most of the time I totally screw them up. But I like the thrill and urgency of it nonetheless. Anyway, let’s do this!

I’m so ready for this!

EBOOKS OR PHYSICAL BOOKS?

I used to be a total no-no to ebooks kind of person, but now I’m fine with both. While ebooks are more convenient travel companions, physical books are well..physical! You can hold it and smell it and they decorate the shelves. Both have their own advantages.

Let’s be friends.

PAPERBACK OR HARDBACK?

Paperbacks. Because, firstly they are much cheaper. Secondly, they are comparatively easier to handle. But if hardbacks were as cheaper, I would definitely choose them since they look better on the shelf.

ONLINE OR IN-STORE BOOK SHOPPING?

I usually prefer online book shopping. I am a lazy person so I don’t go out as much. Besides, why go out when you can have it delivered right at your footsteps? Also, they are cheaper.

200-5

TRILOGIES OR SERIES?

I don’t have any preference as such. Take all the books you need to tell your story, just don’t drag the story or make it boring in anyway.

HEROES OR VILLAINS?

In books I like heroes. We usually don’t get to read the story from the villain’s perspective (we should though!), so I don’t get very attached to them. There are always exceptions, however.

A BOOK YOU WANT EVERYONE TO READ?

I’ll Give You The Sun. I absolutely adore the book.

RECOMMEND AN UNDERRATED BOOK.

The Kane Chronicles by Rick Riordan.

THE LAST BOOK YOU FINISHED?

Queen Of Shadows. I didn’t technically finish it though. I have put the entire series on hold for a while.

WEIRDEST THING YOU USED AS A BOOKMARK?

I have a tendency to use the first thing that comes to my hand as a bookmark. It usually consists of ball pens, but the weirdest I’ve used so far are my headphones.

giphy

USED BOOKS, YES OR NO?

Umm no. Even though they’re cheaper, I just cannot.

TOP THREE FAVORITE GENRES?

Fantasy, YA and thriller any day of the week. I love fast paced storylines with twists and turns.

giphy-4

BORROW OR BUY?

I used to be a hard core borrower at one point. In fact, I’ve gone as far as making my friends buy one part each of a particular series, so that we can all borrow and lend and complete the series together. It benefited us all!

Nowadays though, I just try to buy the books that I can buy. (I want my shelf to grow!)

giphy-3

CHARACTERS OR PLOT?

I think both the characters and the plot are essential to make a good book, but if I had to choose, I’ll go with the plot. Actually no, you cannot overlook the characters. I choose both  the characters as well as the plot.

200-5

LONG OR SHORT BOOK?

If it’s a compelling read then I would prefer it to be a bit longer. But if it’s horrible then I would want it to get over as soon as possible. It depends on the story.

LONG OR SHORT CHAPTERS?

Long chapters. Because short chapters usually end with some cliffhanger-y last sentence and you can’t help but read another chapter and another and another..

Actually, that happens with long chapters too. They should just not have chapters at all!

NAME THE FIRST THREE BOOKS YOU THINK OF.

Cress, Lady Midnight and City Of Heavenly Fire. Wow, two Cassandra Clare books.

BOOKS THAT MAKE YOU LAUGH OR CRY?

Laugh! I love humour in books. Emotional books are nice, but they cannot top humour!

OUR WORLD OR FICTIONAL WORLDS?

Fictional worlds all the way! Only the less deadly ones, though.

200-1

AUDIOBOOKS: YES OR NO?

No. Sadly I’ve never yet tried an audiobook and I’m not sure if I would. I like hearing my own voice in my mind when I read.

DO YOU EVER JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER?

I do. Covers are sometimes so irresistible. They even make the summary at the back look interesting.

BOOK TO MOVIE OR BOOK TO TV ADAPTATION?

Book to TV adaptation as it would give more time to all the scenes of the book and not simply skip a few. TV series have the potential to be as detailed as the book.

SERIES OR STANDALONE?

Since I haven’t read a lot of standalones, I’ll have to go with series. The standalones that I have read don’t seem to be enough for me. I need sequels! I’m used to sequels.

  1. I’ve already done this one so I won’t be doing it again, but thank you for thinking of me Ava! 😀
I like hearing my own voice when reading books too, audiobooks completely take that element away and often times replace your voice with a voice of someone super annoying lol. Why don’t you like used books?

  2. Thank you for tagging me! 🙂 I’m not sure when I’ll get to this tag because I already have posts for this month tentatively planned out. But if an open day pops up soon I can do it then.

      1. Thanks. It sounds like an interesting tag so I’m trying not to get a peak at the questions so it’s a true rapid-fire when I do my post:)

  3. Oooh, great post, Ava!! I super agree about rapid fire things. I always love to do them, but then I panic halfway through and mess them up. Being super indecisive doesn’t help. XD And yay for Cress being in the first three books you think of, but lol to the two Clare books. And I super agree about book covers. It’s what immediately draws you in. Fantastic post, Ava!! 😀

    1. Thanks so much, Mandy! 💙
Exactly, panic screws it up. But this one was nice and slow, so I really enjoyed it! Thank you for tagging me. 😊
Haha, book covers are so catchy. No matter the story, the pretty ones are sure to look on your bookshelf lol😂
Thanks again, Mandy and thanks for the tag! 😊😊

  4. Great tag, Ava! 🙂
I too hate to go out shopping… It’s such a hassle and I don’t deal well with crowds. Besides, there are always such great deals online!
I think you should try audiobooks. They’re just like e-books: at first, you’re skeptical but after a while you realize just how convenient they are and get used to them to the point of missing them.
Also, why did you put the Throne of Glass series on hold, if you don’t mind me asking? Just curious.

    1. Thanks, Sophie! 💙
Exactly! I am also not good with crowds. And you are right about the online deals! You just cannot resist them. 😉
Ohh, I do have a few friends who enjoy audiobooks just as much as physical books, so I think I might give it a go after all. 😀
I stopped reading it for a lot of reasons and I’ve scheduled an entire post about it! Basically, I got into a reading slump due to it. 😁

      1. Oooh I look forward to reading it then! 🙂
And yes, do give them a try! They might take a while to get into (believe me) and some are not really that good, but I’ve come across some really awesome ones that were well worth it.

  5. Love your answers! I am with you on hardback if it’s cheaper but physical and e-book can balance depending on situations.. I also like heroes and the genres. I love those twist and turns. Headphones as bookmarks haha.. I haven’t used that yet but I do use anything within grabs too 🙂

    1. Thanks, Jasmine! 🙂
I wish hardbacks were cheaper haha.
My headphones are usually with me all the time, but yeah it’s super weird lol. I guess all us book lovers just find anything withing grabs to function as a bookmark. 😂

  6. I love this tag! And love your answers! I agree that E-books and physical books each have their own advantages. I used to be e-book for about three years until I returned to physical copies last year. And I usually don’t like to buy used books either. I like to buy new, clean, undamaged books. And I never thought about how short chapters are written but you make a good point about them often ending on cliffhangers! Great answers, Ava! 😀

    1. Thanks! Both ebooks and physical books are good. Books are books. It’s the words inside them that matters.
Yes! Neat and new books are so much better.
Haha, I hate cliffhangers lol. But they do make the story more interesting.
      Thanks again, Azia! 😊
