Book Review – Six Of Crows, Leigh Bardugo

This book is one of a kind.

Set in the fantasy world of the Grisha, the story follows the quest of six outcasts to carry out a seemingly impossible heist. (this one line synopsis was honestly very hard to write. The book has so much more to offer.)

I loved EVERYTHING about this book! I’ll have to admit, having not yet read the Grisha trilogy, it took me a few pages to get used to the world and its elements. But it turned out to be such an intriguing as well as realistic world that I was fully immersed in it by the end of the book. I’m dying to get my hands on Crooked Kingdom now.

The dialogue interaction of the book has come straight out of a movie. They are so witty and well written and the humour is so to the point. This book is intense, thrilling, but at the same time it’s also so funny and entertaining. The sarcasm in this book is one of the best I’ve come across. Again, the interactions between the characters are hilarious.

“Who’d deny a poor cripple his cane?
“If the cripple is you, then any man with sense.”

The characters themselves are so well developed. They’re unique, have different outlooks and thoughts, different backstories and loyalties, different motives and have different responses to the same situation. It was fun to see the world in their varying perspectives. They were very real-excluding their specialties and powers-and I grew attached to them. All six of them are outstanding! I’m especially fond of Nina (I love you Nina) and Kaz (you’re so smart and scheming).

“It’s not natural for women to fight.”
“It’s not natural for someone to be as stupid as he is tall, and yet there you stand.”

The story was excellent. It had twists and turns at just the right places and I liked how the author did not turn it into an intricate mess. As far as fantasy plots go, this one was very unique. It’s probably just me, but the book gave me vibes of all those action-adventure movies (like Pirates Of The Caribbean). It had all the elements of an excellent novel and it lived up to both it’s potential as well as hype.

Six of Crows has a little something for everyone and I recommend it to anyone reading this right now, reader or no. I relished every moment of reading this book. It was amazing!

  2. Fabulous review! I am SO HAPPY that you loved this book too. There really is no other YA book like it. The characters are so well-written and easy to love, the humor is fantastic, and the Ocean’s Eleven heist feel mixed with the superhuman aspect just makes this book a standout in the YA verse. I can’t wait to see what you think of Crooked Kingdom. I hope you love it just as much! ❤
