2016 Year In Review Book Tag

Eva @ Brilliantly Bookish had tagged me ages ago in this awesome tag. Thanks so much, Eva! This is a very, very creative tag.

Trump vs. Clinton: Name your favourite character rivalry.

Rhysand and Tamlin from ACOTAR. Team Rhysand all the way!

Turkey Failed Coup: A book you started but failed to finish? DNF.

So far there hasn’t been any such book. It’s one of my quirks to finish a book that I’ve started, no matter how much I dislike it.

Pokemon Go: What book did you buy or read based on the hype? Did you enjoy it?

71lklmxqgjl

Eleanor and Park. There was so much hype surrounding this book that I just had to buy it. It certainly lived up to the hype!

Stranger Things: What’s one book you want everyone to read?

to_kill_a_mockingbird

To Kill A Mockingbird. It’s a beautiful story with so many morals.

Game of Thrones, The Walking Dead, Mr. Robot: What was your favourite book cliffhanger within a series?

images-21

Lady Midnight. I admit there wasn’t exactly a cliffhanger in this one but I had needed the sequel so much after having finished it. I’m still not over it.

The Tragic Crisis in Aleppo: Name the last book that made you cry or teary-eyed.

51a99tea6il-_sx317_bo1204203200_

The Book Thief. Books hardly make me cry but this book in particular was so emotional and heart melting, that it made me shed a tear or two.

Brexit: Name a book you have an unpopular opinion towards.

The Fault In Our Stars. Now, I don’t hate this book, but I also don’t love it. I just had huge expectations from it which it unfortunately didn’t live up to and that’s it.

Four new elements discovered in the periodic table: Name an author you discovered/read for the first time this year.

Marissa Meyer, Sarah J Maas, Victoria Aveyard, Jandy Nelson, Rainbow Rowell, to name a few.

#AllLivesMatter: Your favourite diverse read.

images-26

I’ll Give You The Sun. I haven’t read a lot of diverse books (need to work on that)  but this one blew me away with its words and story.

Zika Virus: A book that spread like wildfire.

sixofcrows

Six of Crows. The entire Blogverse is filled with reviews and thoughts of this book and they are all So. Very. Positive. I so have to read this book.

Leonardo DiCaprio FINALLY won the Oscar: What was your most anticipated book release this year?

No idea. Up until now I hardly bothered with new releases,  except if they were a sequel of any novel I’d read and liked. It’s only with blogging that I’ve started getting hyped about new releases.

In Memorium: Name a memorable character death.

Crown Of Midnight SPOILER ALERT! Nehemia’s death in Crown Of Midnight was one of the most shocking deaths I’d come across. I had thought she would go on to become one of the main characters of the story and her death did not fit well with me. (currently reading Heir of Fire)

Samsung phones: One book that blew your mind this year!

A Court Of Mist And Fury. One of my absolute favourites!

  1. The Book Thief made you shed a tear or two? Only? Mate, I truly admire your strength here. I finished that book and quite literally couldn’t breathe from all the sobs and tears– it was that bad. And I agree on Lady Midnight, that last sentence had me screaming for more!
    Brilliant post, mate xx

    1. I do get emotional over books but shedding even a single tear is pretty rare in my case. I do get all teary eyed and internally WRECKED with emotions but actual tears don’t come out as easily (there must be something wrong with me). And it’s only in the case of books! Otherwise, it’s very easy to make me cry (emotional anime are not good for my heart at all).
So me shedding a few tears over a book is a very BIG thing in my case, and trust me, the Book Thief had to be totally amazing to be able to do that. I remember being completely stormed with emotions after having read it!
Cassandra Clare has a way with her words that keep us dying for more and more.
      Thanks, Ayaka! xx

      1. Okay yes, I should’ve taken your case into account; my apologies for that. The one thing I love about books (among many other ‘one things’) is that they can totally get to me, making me feel all those emotions right at one go- something that doesn’t happen very often in my rather mundane life, mind you. And don’t even get me started on emotional anime (have you watched Romeo and Juliet, the anime version?). They’re not good for neither my heart, nor my lungs nor my eyes, for the matter. Ah, great things, great things.
Oh and, you’re most welcomed xx

      2. Why do you apologise? It’s my fault for lacking tears over books lol

Haha, I think that’s the magic of books! Allowing one to feel a torrent of these emotions that are hard to come by in real life (don’t worry we’re all living such mundane and monotonous lives here). Escaping the real world has never been easier!
Um unfortunately I haven’t seen it but I’m going to check it out now. 🙂
        xx

      3. Lacking tears over books at least saves you the agony of having to cry in a public food court whilst reading (yep, that’s me). So I’d say it’s a gift, mate!
Aye, books are truly a blessing~
And I hope you find that anime half as interesting as I did! (now I feel like rewatching it..).

      4. Hehe that’s true! Did that really happen with you? Well it’s nothing to be ashamed of though. That goes about to show that even buzzing crowds and public places cannot hinder your emotions over books. Not to mention it makes a funny anecdote!

      5. It did happen! And my father looked at me as though I was such a hopeless case (couldn’t argue with him there). Whereas it does make a good laugh, I just wish I was one of those pretty-criers so that I could cry more comfortably out, you know? 😂💔

      6. Believe me, every time he witnesses one of my ‘bookish anecdotes’, he rethinks his life choices all over again XD
And cheers to all the ugly-criers who are absolutely beautiful but just generally prefer sobbing and blowing their noses over other more flattering activities (that’d be us and most book readers around XD).

  2. I have to finish a book if I’ve started it too but I’m seriously struggling with finishing the Red Queen it’s such a snore for me haha. I’ll get to it eventually though.

This tag is fun! I discovered Marissa Meyer last year and she’s great. Have all the other authors in that section on my to read list too!

  3. This tag looks super fun! Thanks so much for tagging me 😀 Can’t wait to get to it. And I love your answers. YAS to Team Rhysand. Tamlin can go jump in a ditch for all I care lol. ACOMAF was definitely a mind-blowing read. Definitely one of the best, if not the best, books of last year. And I have yet to read To Kill a Mockingbird, but it’s on my TBR. Hopefully I can get to it sometime this year 😀 Also, I 100% agree with you about that Lady Midnight cliffhanger. Talk about suspense haha. I NEED to read the next book to see what happens! I, too, was severely disappointed by TFIOS. I have a hard time understanding the hype around that book. I thought it was just okay. And I really hope you enjoy Six of Crows once you get around to it. I think it’s got to be one of my favorite YA books of all time. Can’t wait to see your thoughts on it! 😀

    Liked by 1 person

    1. You’re welcome! I disliked Tamlin even in ACOTAR, but Rhysand stole my heart!
ACOMAF was soo amazing. I don’t even have words to describe how awesome it was.!!
To Kill a Mockingbird is pretty nice. Hope you like it.
Aah Lady Midnight was so good, and yes can’t wait to know what happens next! I really don’t want Mark and Emma to date urgh!
Yay I’m glad to see there are more people who agree with me on TFIOS. I used to think I was the only one.
Now you’re making me even more eager to read Six of Crows! I’ll try to get my hands on the book as soon as I can. 🙂

      Liked by 1 person

      1. I’ll admit that I liked Tamlin for the majority of ACOTAR, but I began to notice how pathetic he was towards the end of it haha. I’m hoping to reread ACOMAF soon! And I don’t want Mark and Emma to date either. I’m on team Julian + Emma, and I kind of want Mark to be with Kieran! Can’t wait to read your thoughts on Six of Crows 😀

        Liked by 1 person

      2. In my case, I thought Tamlin x Feyre was going to be another predictable pairing and wasn’t really interested in Tamlin. I might reread ACOMAF too!
I cannot be sure about my ships in LM. But I know that Julian and Emma will most definitely be together. As for Mark, l kind of ship him with Cristina, but as I said I’m not sure lol. 😀

        Liked by 1 person

      3. I can see now why Tamlin was so unappealing to a lot of readers. Unfortunately, I fell into his trap the haha. I thought he and Feyre were so cute together. *For shame, for shame* I kind of ship him with Cristina, too, but Kieran is definitely my number one pick. My other ship is Ty and Kit haha

        Liked by 1 person

      4. Ty and Kit, how can I forget? I ship them too! They’ll be great together. And I kind of have this feeling that they WILL end up together.
By the way, is it just me who thinks Troye Sivan would make a perfect Mark?

        Liked by 1 person

      5. I think it was definitely hinted at a few times! I am going to be ECSTATIC if they do actually end up together. And interesting casting!…Idk, I think he’d make a cute Mark! 🙂 But, on the other hand, I feel like he looks a bit too young to be him, too, haha

        Liked by 1 person

      6. Cassie even posted a little Ty and Kit LoS snippet on twitter! You’re right. Ecstatic is the right word to describe it.
Haha, I don’t know but I always imagine Troye when I think of Mark. I mean, he does look like a little faerie. But I guess it’s just me then lol. 🙂

        Liked by 1 person

      7. Oh my God, I MUST find this tweet. I must read this snippet. *Silently fangirling*

Troye really does look like a faerie doesn’t he? LOL. Well, if that’s the look Clare intended, then I think he’s perfect! I pictured Mark more lean and muscular for some reason…Not really sure why haha

        Liked by 1 person

      8. Hahaha, the tweet confirms it…kind of! I’m all the more excited for LoS now!
I imagined Mark quite the oppsosite of lean and muscular, actually. I imagined him as this beautiful, delicate little thing. He’s my favourite character! 🙂

        Liked by 1 person

      9. Funny how differently people imagine the same characters! But he’s definitely my favorite character, too! Although, it’s a close call among him, Julian, and Ty. I love all three of them!

        Liked by 1 person

      10. That’s another remarkable thing about books!
Julian and Ty are pretty great too, actually now that I think about it. Even Cristina is one of my favourites! Guess all the characters are awesome (i’m in total fangirling mode right now) 😉

        Liked by 1 person

      11. Yes, books are a wonderful thing! I love hearing other people’s opinions and perceptions of the characters 😀 I think Clare outdid herself with her characters this time around. I think they’re all so amazing haha. I even loved the warlock turned villain (forgot his name…) LOL

        Liked by 1 person

      12. Same. I love discussing books and opinions! 🙂
Cassie never fails to amaze me with her characters. They’re so well defined and real! It’s hard not to like them. And yes, even I didn’t hate that warlock (can’t remember the name myself lol) as much as I should’ve. He was pretty entertaining. 😀

        Liked by 1 person

      13. Oh definitely! I can’t wait to see what new characters she’ll introduce us to in the next few books. And even though I really liked that warlock (his name still hasn’t come to me haha), Magnus Bane is still my number one LOL

        Liked by 1 person

      14. Yes! Can’t wait for Lord of Shadows! I’m not used to waiting that long for Cassie’s novels haha.
That warlock was entertaining, but of course, no one can top the perfection that is Magnus Bane!

        Liked by 1 person

      15. Me neither! This wait is kind of excruciating haha. And “perfection” is right. Magnus Bane is one of the main reasons why I loved TMI so much. I’m so mad he only showed up, like, three times in LM. I need more Magnus!

  4. This is such a cool tag! I love that it includes so many mixed events from all over the world ^^
I definitely share your opinion on John Green, but not necessarily on TFIOS as I’ve never read it. But I’ve read An Abundance of Katherines and Looking for Alaska and both just weren’t my cup of tea. It seems all his characters and stories just blend together, you know?
I never finished To Kill a Mockingbird… I know!! But I really enjoyed reading it. I definitely need to read it again, though 🙂 Have you tried the sequel yet?
Thank you so much for tagging me and I look forward to reading more from you! ❤

    1. Even I really liked the creativity of this tag!
I haven’t read An Abundance of Katherines but Looking for Alaska took me ages to finish. I wasn’t able to enjoy it at all!
I haven’t read the sequel yet but will try to read as soon as I can. 🙂
You’re very welcome! Looking forward to more from you as well! 😀

  5. The Book Thief…The Book Thief…easily one of my most favorite books of all time! If you liked that, I highly recommend I Am The Messenger. Markus Zusak also wrote that one, but you may not be able to tell; the writing style is so different, but it’s just as good! Maybe it’s my age, but I found it to be even more relatable that The Book Thief. It’s one of my favorite books.
