Yes, I finally read this book. And I’m so glad I did.
The novel follows the story of Feyre, a mortal huntress in a world of Faeries and humans, who is facing the consequences of taking a life, and paying the price with her own.
This is my first Sarah J. Maas book and now I can finally see why people like her books so much. I think I have successfully joined the bandwagon myself. The story, though loosely based on Beauty and the Beast, had so much more to offer (though I was only able to realise that towards the end of the book, where everything just gets so epic, by the way). The premise was interesting, but I found the book getting just a tiny bit boring towards the middle because it was seeming a little repetitive and slow (I’m more of a fast paced, adventure junkie) and then the END happened and I was left awestruck.
This book had everything in it. Romance? You got it. Action and adventure? Most certainly. The plot was well-written and well-developed and I know I’ve said it before, but the climax was amazing. The climax was everything. In fact, the perfect story woven towards the end of the book was what made me like it as much as i do. I’m not sure i would’ve appreciated it as much had it been a loose story of love and sacrifice. Basically, the last 100 pages were the best part of the book.
As for the characters, they were interesting in their own ways. Feyre reminded me a lot of Katniss, with her audacity and rebellious demeanor apart from also being the only source of income of a poverty stricken family, and I ended up liking as well as respecting her character. I have mixed opinions on Tamlin, however, and I hope I sort them out by the time I finish the second book.
I had expected this book to end on a cliffhanger, or leave some unanswered questions, but the chapter most certainly did close in this book itself, only dropping minor hints on what’s to come next. That’s something I don’t see in a lot of novels which are oart of a series and that’s another thing I liked about the book.
To sum up, I deeply enjoyed reading this book and would’ve given it a five on five just for that incredible ending, but keeping the entire book in mind and not just those 100 pages, I’ll have to refrain from doing so.
Cannot wait to read more about Feyre’s exciting adventures.
Would you read this book?
What are your thoughts on the book?
Great review! I’m so glad you liked it. I actually liked the sequel, The Court of Mist and Fury even more because it takes everything you thought you knew about the characters, and turns it upside down! And you’ve got to try the Throne of Glass series ASAP! I was a latecomer to to that also, but I’ve become instantly addicted!💁🏻

Thanks so much! Aah I’m getting more and more excited to read the sequel! From all that I’m hearing about it, it must be even better than this book. Soo looking forward to it!
And yes, I’ll try to read the Throne of Glass series as soon as I can! So many books, so little time haha.
Sarah J. Maas is a great author. 😀
Thanks for reading! 🙂

I’ve read the first 2 books in the Throne of Glass series so far, and I liked them but I never moved on to the third. I have been curious about this series too, wondering if I might like it more.

From what I’ve heard, both the series are considered equally great. You can certainly try reading this series. It’s only got two parts so far so won’t take that long.
Thanks for reading!

I think I will. I didn’t realize it was a Beauty and the Beast retelling, so that makes me more interested.

Beauty and the Beast is a great fairy tale and this book has portrayed it in an amazing and genius way. 🙂

Awesome review!! I also gave it the same rating as you because I felt it got boring sometimes, like you mentioned in the review. I also found Feyre to be a tad bit problematic in ACOTAR. I feel like SJM’s first books aren’t always that great but the rest tend to build up. A Court of Mist and Fury is waaaayyyyy better and it’s a Hades and Persephone retelling. One of my favorites of the year.

Thanks! Oh, good to know I’m not the only one. 😀
I didn’t know that the second book was a retelling as well! Can’t wait to read it! 🙂
Thanks for reading.

Books that are part of a series that don’t have conclusive endings are a pet peeve of mine, too. I have this author on my to read list (I’m going to start the Throne of Glass series when I’m done with what I’m reading) so I will definitely put this series on my to read list, as well!

Ohh I have yet to read the Throne Of Glass series, but it seems to be a really good book!
It’s hard to find such novels with conclusive endings these days, that’s why I always appreciate it whenever I come across one.
Thanks for reading!

Awesome review! I’ve heard a bunch of good things about this book and I’m itching to read it! I have Sarah J. Maas’ Throne of Glass series, so I have to finish those first. But I don’t think I can control myself with waiting that long to read ACOTAR!
