What is your favourite genre?
My favourite genre is FANTASY! I know a LOT of people have this as their favourite genre but, what can I say, it is indeed one of the best genres out there. I mean, who wouldn’t be attracted by the beautiful and epic worlds created in Fantasy. It is a testament to the powerful and free imagination of the human mind.
Besides fantasy, I also enjoy Young Adult Fiction.
Who is your favorite author from that genre?
I think my favourites are J K Rowling and J R R Tolkien as the world’s created by them were the most believable and realistic. I still wonder if there actually coexists a wizard world, only hidden from us. And I also wonder if Middle-Earth had really existed in the past in the form of the Pangea that we read about in Geography textbooks.
Oh the wonderful and unrestricted imagination of a Fantasy reader!
What is it about the genre that keeps pulling you back?
Every Fantasy book has something new to offer. New worlds filled with new creatures and new stories and new ideas and concepts.
I am the kind of person that reads Fantasy to escape the reality and the monotony of life. Getting lost in a fictional world is the best feeling ever. And that’s why I can never stop reading this genre.
What is the book that started your love for your favorite genre?
Percy Jackson was my first Fantasy novel. Before it I had never even read a novel of 300 pages and I remember how reluctant my father had been to buy it for me, as he wasn’t so sure if I would be able to finish it. But of course, the novel turned out to be so amazing that I didn’t take very long to finish, much to my father’s surprise. My love for Fantasy only grew from then.
If you had to recommend at least one book from you favorite genre to a non-reader/someone looking to start that genre, what book would you choose and why?
I think Harry Potter is a great gateway book for Fantasy. There are tons of good books out there, but Harry Potter isn’t too light or heavy for a new reader and Rowling’s immersive and riveting style will do the rest. I would also recommend a Song of Ice and Fire to a person looking for a more heavy and mature Fantasy.
Why do you read?
I read because I love getting lost in fictional worlds and befriending fictional characters and having my own adventures with them. I enjoy learning new stories and lessons and escaping the dull and crushing reality. Not to mention it improves my imagination and makes me wiser.
