Anime challenge #1 – First Anime I Watched

This is my first post in the anime challenge and I’m all fired up!

I think I’ve told you before, but the first anime that I watched was Fairytail. Well, technically the very first should be Pokemon, but at that time I had no idea what animes were and just assumed it to be a cartoon. I also watched Beyblade, Digimon and Detective Conan on TV , as cartoons. Now i know what a BIG TABOO it is to call an anime a cartoon!

ANIME IS NOT CARTOON!

I enjoyed watching both Pokemon and Fairytail, but I like to call FT as my first anime. It is so entertaining. Predictable, but entertaining. And so funny! I used to watch it on a channel called Animax, that only broadcasted animes. I think I was twelve at that time.

I instantly fell in love with it and did not miss a single episode. I didn’t care about anything but FT. I  was so obsessed. I even started reading the manga. Now it’s been a long time since I last saw it or read it. I do plan on watching all the latest episodes though.

Now there are so many anime that i have watched, that, in comparison , are much better than FT. But this anime is still very close to my heart and always will be.

What is the first anime that you watched?

Thanks for reading!

  1. Oh, this challenge looks like fun! Think I’ll give it a shot!

I haven’t been into Fairy Tail recently, and I still feel the series was at its peak during the Phantom Lord arc but it’s a good show and very enjoyable overall! I need to catch up sometime.

My first anime barring Dragon Ball Z and the stuff on Toonami (which don’t really count) was Tsubasa Chronicle, which even to this day, still remains in my Top 5. It’s an amazing show and I love it just as much to this day!

    1. The Phantom Lord arc was really good. That arc was the one that got me hooked to Fairytail. Though my personal favorite is the Nirvana arc.
I have heard about Tsubasa chronicle but haven’t seen it yet. From your description, it seems very enjoyable and I’ll certainly check it out! Thanks for checking out my blog.

      1. The Nirvana arc was pretty cool too!

And I highly recommend it! It’s a very sad show but it’s also a really heartwarming and enjoyable journey with some amazing characters and a really cool story.

And no problem! I’m always happy to check out other people’s stuff, especially when they do the same! 🙂 I’ll be looking forward to seeing the rest of your answers.

Now to get started on mine…

  2. My first was Pokemon too and yeah, I thought of it as a cartoon as well given that it aired on Cartoon Network. But I don’t even remember the anime I watched knowing it’s an anime. I have a crappy memory. But it might have been Yu Yu Hakusho.

  3. Mine was either Sailor Moon or DBZ. My dad used to go to the local Japanese shop and borrow the tapes they recorded on some channel, complete with commercials. We used our VCR to make a copy, teeheee. No subs and we made everything up so I’m not sure I know the real storylines behind either of them.

    1. Haha that’s such a cool story. Your imaginative skills must be impressive! 🙂
In my case, my mother wouldn’t let me and my elder brother watch Pokemon until I finished my glass of milk and so my brother always used to drink my glass of milk-when my mom wasn’t looking-along with his own so that we could watch it on time.

      1. Teehee. Not sure. Maybe back then cuz I was motivated by colorful visuals and the strong desire to blast people with energy and/or be a magical girl, but not now!

Oooo that’s pretty smart of both your mom and you and your brother. Did you not like milk very much? Or was it like a super big glass?

      2. Who wouldn’t be attracted to the beautiful anime worlds filled with magic and colours? 😉 And we’ve all had the desires to be powerful and magical!

I disliked milk back then haha and so it took ages to get me to finish it. The glass was of a normal size but my dislike was super big.

  4. Fairytail is a great place to start. For me, back in the 90s, it was all about Dragon Ball z and Sailor Moon. But the first anime I watched knowing full-well what anime is, was Cowboy Bebop.

  5. Yea I remember fairytail, I think the anime is good but I don’t like the manga. The storyline is not that good to me but I like the animation, soundtrack, the fighting, and the characters. My first anime knowing that it was an anime was naruto.

  7. I love Fairytail, it’s so much fun to watch. After a while you start to think they ARE your family, it’s such a sweet anime. Come check out my newborn blog fairytailovers.wordpress.com if you wanna come and talk about the newest episodes or just want to talk about life. Keep up the good work 🙂

    1. All the characters DO seem like your own family! You become so attached to them over the course of the series and laugh when they laugh and cry when they cry.
Thanks for reading! And I’m certainly checking your blog out! 🙂

  8. I feel kinda old. The first three anime that I was exposed to were Sailor Moon, Knights of the Zodiac and Dragon Ball. That was back in the early 90s. Coupled with Power Rangers (I know it’s an anime) I was a full blown warrior in school. I used a brook to pretend it was the Sailor Pluto Staff. Huehuehue. Good times!

  9. Yes! I love fairytail, and have been with the story for years. I didn’t love a specific arc, but how the characters grew in the storyline. My first anime was fullmetal alchemist when I was younger. Favorite anime rn would have to be SAO, dunno if you’ve seen it or like it.

    1. For me, the best thing about FT are the characters. All of them are so likable and intriguing.
Haven’t seen SAO, but loved Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood.
      Thanks for reading.
